Former Barcelona and Argentina defender Javier Mascherano is reportedly interested in moving to MLS this winter when his Chinese league contract ends. The move has already sparked rumors and feelers from Atlanta United, LA Galaxy, Nashville SC, and Inter Miami.

The move would be a 180 for Inter Miami's strategy this far. Mascherano is 35-years-old and well past his prime. The value that someone like Mascherano brings at this point in his career is leadership and name recognition.

A veteran defensive presence in the locker room would be a fantastic addition for Inter. He's far enough past his prime to not steal the time from youngsters, but still at an age where he can play minutes if need be.

Either way, Mascherano is going to end up in a place with beautiful weather, making great money to help helm and lead a locker room. There's not much more you can ask for at that stage of your career.
